PRESCHOOL families of incoming kindergarten for 2025-2026
Newport Primary school has Move-Up day each year. On this day, students visit the classroom of their next year’s teacher for a few hours. Incoming Kindergarten students are welcomed to come this day too! Your child will meet and spend time with their kindergarten teachers. This is a great opportunity for your child to become more comfortable with school and get a sneak peek at what Kindergarten is all about.
On this day, we ask you to drop off on Putnam Street just like you did for preschool. Our preschool teachers will be there to greet and keep the preschoolers until it is time to meet their Kindergarten teacher. Breakfast will be provided.
Pick up your future Kindergartener at 11:00 am on Putnam Street.
C in our WILDCAT countdown is for capes and crowns. Students are encouraged to wear a cape or crown.

NPS Derby day is tomorrow! Ms. Whitfield (PE teacher) and Ms. Hofstetter (Art teacher) use the Kentucky Derby in their lessons so we celebrate the Friday after the big race. Students are encouraged to dress up and/or wear a hat or fascinator to school.
Today is National School Nurse Day! Newport Independent Schools is lucky to have such a dedicated, hard-working nursing staff serving our students' needs. Thank you for all you do!

Mr. Atkins is so excited to, secretly, share that we have shown tremendous growth in Reading and Math this school year and we have met our school-wide i-Ready proficiency goals! This will be shared with students on Monday, May 12th during our morning assembly.
The i-Ready assessment was taken at the start of the school year and again in December. Each time, our school-wide data was shared with students along with our school-wide proficiency goals. All kindergarten through second grade students voted on a school-wide incentive for meeting or exceeding our spring growth goals. Students voted to have Kona Ice and visit Buena Vista Park located on 11th Street, one block from school.
Kindergarten through second grade will have Kona Ice and have the opportunity to visit Buena Vista Park on Monday, May 12th after lunch. Similar to other school trips, there is no specific permission form for this event. All students have permission on file for any school-related trip. If your child is not permitted to attend the park (they will still get Kona Ice) please call the main office.
Attached you will see the overall school reading and math i-Ready data for the school year. Again, students will learn this information Monday morning, so please keep it a secret.
